Competition
Join us for an exciting round of competitions. Couples can dance in the group competition, (where they dance at the same time and are judged by comparison) as a beginner, intermediate, or championship level dancer.
They may also enter our beginner showdance competition, or our ESPN World Salsa Championship qualifying competition. In these categories, dancers put on their own 2 minute show. The winners of the ESPN qualifier will win the right to represent the Calgary International Salsa Congress at the 2008 ESPN World Salsa Championships in Orlando, and have their airfare and hotel paid by the organizers!
Competition Rules
Beginner, Intermediate, and Championship Group Competition
In the Calgary International Salsa Congress group competitions, the competitors will be evaluated by judges selected by the organizers.
Competitors will dance on the stage, at the same time, in each category, to music selected by the organisers.
The judges will evaluate all couples by comparison.
Competitors may enter ONE group category (beginner, Intermediate, or championship) but may enter a showdance event (beginner or the ESPN qualifier) as well.
Lifts are not permitted in group competition.
Costumes are permitted and encouraged.
Competitors may dance any style of salsa, and break on any beat, as long as it remains consistent.
All competitors are required to send an email confirming registration to info@calgarysalsacongress.com with both partners first and last names, the level of salsa they are dancing (beginner, intermediate, or championship), their phone number, and email address, no later than January 15, 2009.
amatuer Showdance Competition
In the Calgary International Salsa Congress beginner showdance competition, the competitors will be evaluated by judges selected by the organizers.
The judges will evaluate based on a score sheet provided by the organizers, all judges decisions are final.
All of the competitors must provide their music on 2 different brands of CD to the organizers, with the maximum length being two minutes, only 1 track per CD, labelled with competitors names.
Lifts are permitted.
Costumes are permitted and encouraged.
Competitors may dance any style of salsa, and break on any beat, as long as it remains consistent.
All competitors are required to send an email confirming registration to info@calgarysalsacongress.com with both partners first and last names, their phone number, and email address, no later than January 15, 2009.
ESPN World Salsa Championship qualifying competition
In the Calgary International Salsa Congress ESPN qualifying competition, the competitors will be evaluated by judges selected by the organizers.
The judges will evaluate based on a score sheet provided by the organizers, all judges decisions are final.
All of the competitors must provide their music on 2 different brands of CD to the organizers, with the maximum length being two minutes, only 1 track per CD, labelled with competitors names.
Lifts are permitted in all categories.
Costumes are permitted and encouraged.
Competitors may dance any style of salsa, and break on any beat, as long as it remains consistent.
All competitors in the Calgary International Salsa Congress ESPN qualifying competition are required to dance a 2 minute warm up, on the floor at the same time, in their costumes, to music selected by the organizers.
All competitors are required to send an email confirming registration to info@calgarysalsacongress.com with both partners first and last names, the style of salsa they are dancing (On1, On2, Cabaret), their phone number, and email address, no later than January 15, 2009.
The winners will receive hotel and airfare, and represent the Calgary Salsa Congress at the 2009 ESPN World Salsa Championships.
*In the case of 3 or more couples dancing in the same style, competition will be split into different categories, and the winners of EACH competition will win the right to represent the Calgary International Salsa Congress at the 2008 ESP World Salsa Championships.
